Understanding Ash Requirements for Memorial Diamonds.

1. Natural Diamonds

2. Ash Quantity for Memorial Diamonds

3. Insufficient Ash

In this informative post, we will explore the amount of cremated ashes needed to create a memorial diamond and alternative options when there is insufficient ash. Before delving into these topics, let's understand how naturally occurring diamonds are formed.

1) Natural Diamonds

Diamonds, the most valuable form of carbon, are created deep beneath the Earth's surface under extreme temperature and pressure conditions. They are brought to the surface through volcanic eruptions. Commercially-mined diamonds are often found in diamond-containing rocks called xenoliths. [1]. (Find out more)

2) Ash Quantity for Memorial Diamonds:

At Algordanza, our lab recreates the diamond formation process using high heat and pressure. To create a memorial diamond up to 1 carat in size, we require a minimum of 500g of cremated ashes, split into two separate airtight bags. This amount ensures the availability of sufficient carbon for the diamond formation process.

3) Insufficient Ash

If there is not enough ash available, Algordanza conducts a composition analysis to determine the carbon content. In cases where there is insufficient carbon, ashes are returned at no cost, and the order is canceled. However, we offer an alternative option called the "Stailas" memorial diamond. This allows clients to proceed with the manufacturing process using combustible personal articles (such as clothing, plush toys, shoes, or journals) mixed with available carbon. In some cases, hair from immediate family members can also be used to supplement the carbon content.

Only natural materials that are combustible can be used to produce the diamond

Algordanza  has made it a point to ensure the memorial diamond service is available in these situations where ashes are not quite enough. From experiences in Japan, a special type of diamond we call “Stailas”- The shining star of revitalizing of precious memories was developed.
